The bezels from original SS cars & from original Malibu cars are almost completely different pieces. The SS strips are chromed plated plastic. The Malibu versions are two pieces, an aluminum bezel with a thin steel insert with a woodgrain applique.The wide ratio gives you a wider spread going from 3-4, but the 3.31 effectively behaves like a small overdrive compared to the 3.73. The car will accelerate the same between the first 3 gears, but with the close ratio, you might be a tad faster going from 3-4, at the cost of losing the better 3.31 highway gear. I was told there are 2 different size bearings on the engine side of the column. Of course the one in mine was NLA but a local GM steering column guy had the part I needed for cheap. I have installed Classic Auto Air in two old cars, including an old Chevelle. I have installed Vintage in old cars. They are about equally hard/easy to install.
